becoming more comfortable in your own skin

As I've written about before, I have struggled nearly my whole life with low self esteem and body image issues. I've grown up and focused wholly on the importance of my mental health in relation to my eating and body, trying not to let bad things reflect back on to myself. Slowly but surely I've started to become more comfortable and confident in my own skin, and stopped comparing myself to others and just enjoy life. Honestly, it's made the quality of life so much better, it is genuinely surprising how much a lack of confidence really affects your life. I've found a few ways to help my mentality on this subject and I thought I'd share them, I know that I'm only one of many that struggle with this, so why not try and help others?
1. Basque in your own nudity!
Being naked or sleeping naked has helped me loads with being comfortable in my body. Just getting used to the sight and the feel of your naked body is surprisingly helpful.
2. Wear what you want to wear.
Wear anything you want, wear what you want to wear. It doesn't matter if you think those clothes don't 'suit your body type' or you think you need to be smaller or curvier or whatever for them to look good on you. Just wear it because you like it! Don't restrict yourself.
3. Nourish your body.
Being conscious of what I actually put in my body is also important. For me, I feel so much happier in my body when I know it's full of healthy and nutritious food. It makes me feel like I'm actually looking after it, it is the only body you get after all! (as cliched as that is).
4. Cut out toxic people
Surrounding yourself with supportive and caring people is so so important, it reflects onto your own mindset so much. If you have friends that criticize or judge you, or maybe make you feel not so great about yourself, think hard and proper about if they're worth being in your life. If it feels like they don't add positive value to your life, or support you, are they really your friend?
5. Stop comparing!
As difficult as it is, especially in a world where you're drowned by social media and photoshopped models and celebrities, it's hard not to compare yourself to them. But once you let go of that toxicity, you can feel so happy and free. Just enjoy you, be yourself and live your best life! Don't let poisonous thoughts ruin your life for you. You are incredible.
6. Take photos
This is something that has surprisingly boosted my self confidence quite a lot. As someone who didn't feel so great about the way they looked, I always felt shy or uncomfortable in front of the camera. But having been taking more photos for Instagram and this blog, I've been loving it! It just makes me feel so confident and actually appreciate myself a lot more, and there's nothing wrong with that!
Let me know what makes you feel confident and love your skin,
Courtney xx
