eating my way through auckland

So I’ve just gotten back from a short wee holiday up north to Auckland where my partner and I stayed in the cutest little Airbnb in Kingsland. Now, when I looked up the Airbnb, I didn’t bother to look at the location as I figured we would be Ubering everywhere anyways so it would matter, but turns out we were right around the corner of the cutest little township filled with loads of wonderful eateries of all sorts of cuisine. Here are my favourites:

Monday’s Wholefoods I’ve been following this café on Instagram for a while and was stoked to find out it was down the road from our place! The vibe and décor was so so chill and very me, anywhere there are fairy lights or plants – I’m there. The food was just as beautiful, so good that we went twice! We tried the unicorn smoothie bowl which was so good, the pear and quince buckwheat waffles, the poached eggs on their famous seeded bread and the vegetarian eggs benedict on cumin cornbread with plant based hollandaise which was amaaaazing!

The Raw Kitchen This place I have also been following for a long long time, it’s quite well known in the health food/vegan community. They have an amazing selection of raw vegan sweets and treats and beautiful salads. I had the Mexican Collard Wrap with vegan mince and paprika cream and holy crap it was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten I swear. I also had the raw vegan banoffee cheesecake which was perfect, like they don’t even taste like they’re good for you. I was beyond impressed with this place and it had the cutest décor, like a little indoor balcony and covered in plants (yay!).

Citizen Park Such a lovely modern/hipster-chic type restaurant with very yummy burgers and like the best ‘hashtag’ fries, again with fairy lights and lots of foliage hehe.

Petit Bocal My partner and I had such a lovely little dinner date at this French-style bistro. We shared a delicious cheeseboard with grapes and walnuts along with a seafood platter with A+ calamari. For dessert I had the chocolate fondant with dulce de leche and vanilla icecream, omg so delicious I bloody love chocolate fondant. Jacob had the bread and butter pudding which I can confirm is also delicious!

Al’s Diner This place was way cooler than expected. When we were feeling knackered we stopped here to get some takeaways and the place was pretty cool. Full of American-style comfort food and delicious sounding milkshakes it was a cute little cosy place. I had the gluten free salmon bagel and it was one of the best bagels I’ve ever had like no lie and it was so huuuuge too I couldn’t finish it!

Mac’s Neighbourhood Brewbar There’s a lot of Mac’s Brewbars around in New Zealand, and this one was quite cool! A bit unique with the modern-industrial décor, it was a nice, casual place to go to for drinks (which we did a few times).

If you’re wanting to check out Auckland, I definitely recommend staying in Kingsland, it’s pretty close to the CBD and has loads of cool bars and restaurants.

Keep an eye out for my next post about the stuff we got up to while we were up there! Courtney xx
